Institute of World Class Professionals

The Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria is a Professional Membership Institute for the Nigerian Insurance Industry.
The Institute’s vision is to help groom “World Class” talent for an “International Industry” by promoting skills development and professional conduct among members engaged in the Nigerian insurance industry.

About Us

Who we are

Founded in 1959 by Article and Memorandum of Association, the Institute was known and referred to as Insurance Institute of Nigeria until February 26, 1993 when it became Chartered vide Decree (Now Act) No 22 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Upon establishment in 1959, the Institute became the rallying point for Insurance practitioners in Nigeria comprising a few expatriates and their Nigerian counterparts whose pioneering efforts provided the building blocks for what has now become a veritable force in the Nation’s Financial Services Industry and the Economy at large. The Institute was affiliated to the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), London in 1960 for reasons bordering on the need to model its operations after the London institute which then produced the bulk of Insurance professionals whose expertise were indispensable in shaping the face of professional practice in the early days.
